Day-ride loadout

A light, quick-to-pack kit for a day on Utah ATV trails: protection, water, a repair and recovery pouch and a way to call for help.

Updated Oct 27, 2026

Quick answer

For a day ride, carry what you need to fix a flat, get unstuck, stay warm and call for help, in one small rack bag. Skip camp gear. Add water for the whole ride, because many trailheads (for example Badger Creek Loop) have no drinking water.

Weight and rack limits

Goal: everything fits in one rack bag or a small hard case, well under the rack rating, with room for a layer you take off.

Rack ratings are per rack and are a limit for the rack, not a target. Add up everything on each rack, including the box or bag itself, and keep it well under the rating; weigh your loaded kit with a bathroom scale and use the running total on the printable checklists.

Ranges across the models in our database for each class; blank cells in a source are skipped, and some front ratings are not published. Your own machine's rating is on its model page and in the owner's manual and is the number that counts.
